The Western Massachusetts Housing Coalition (WMHC) was launched in 2022 as a way for public and private housing developers, cities and towns, regional organizations, and housing advocates to collaborate around one critical issue: create more safe, affordable housing in our region.
The WMHC is over 50 organizations strong and has identified legislative priorities for western Massachusetts tailored to our region’s specific housing challenges, opportunities and needs.
We also shared our organizations’ current housing pipeline and learned that there are:
- 1,500 units in development
- 49 total projects
- Located in 19 cities and towns (of the 101 in the four-county region)
- At a cost of half a billion dollars
To fully close the supply gap will cost at least $7 billion in housing production, preservation and rehabilitation—along with the increased organizational capacity to drive such work.
The WMHC continues to engage with leaders and legislators across the Commonwealth in support of increased housing production and is making recommendations on Governor Healy’s proposed $4.1B housing bond bill.
