This document provides frequently asked questions and answers regarding rental assistance admissions and the wait list.

How do I apply for Section 8?

There are 3 ways to obtain a Section 8 pre-application.  You can download a pre-application by clicking on the link,  http://www.mass.gov/hed/economic/eohed/dhcd/rental-applications-and-documentation.html. Section 8 pre-applications are also available at the Way Finders offices at 322 Main Street, Springfield, 20 Hampton Avenue, Northampton, and 267 High Street, Holyoke, MA or to receive a pre-application by mail please call Rental Support at  413-233-1580, and bring it or mail it to a Way Finders Housing Center

Incomplete, illegible, photocopied, emailed or faxed applications will not be accepted Applicants are placed on the waiting list according to the date and time the completed application is received by Way Finders.

I am on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program wait list, how can I find out the status on my application?

You may contact Way Finders at at 413-233-1510, to confirm your HCVP waitlist status or email your questions to rentalsupport@wayfinders.ma.org. A representative will respond to your inquiry in a timely manner. 

I am on the wait list, how do I report changes to my contact information?

To provide notification for a change in your address, telephone number, or email address please fill out this Change of Address form and bring it or mail it to a Way Finders Housing Center or email it to rentalsupport@wayfinders.org.

You will be notified by mail within 30-60 days of receipt that the changed has been processed. If you have changed your name you will need to contact a representative at 413-233-1510. 

How often applicants’ names are being selected from the Section 8 (HCVP) wait list?

In most cases, waitlist selections vary, dependent upon voucher availability.

I am on a Way Finders Section 8 Project Based wait list. What is my status?

The Section 8 Project-Based Voucher (PBV) program is a component of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCVP) program that provides long term project-based affordable housing for very low and extremely low households. Unlike the HCVP, PBV subsidies are not mobile. The subsidy is tied to a specific unit. Units are located throughout Hampden and Hampshire counties. If you applied to be placed on the Section 8 PBV waiting lists, you may contact Way Finders at  413-233-1510, to confirm your status or email your questions to rentalsupport@wayfinders.ma.org  A representative will respond to your inquiry in a timely manner. .
