Give yourself a tax break when you donate to Way Finders

Donations of $1,000 or more qualify!

Did you know that if you donate over $1,000 in any calendar year to Way Finders, you can get 50% of it back as a tax credit on your MA state income taxes?

Bob Dorfman knows.

Dorfman Capital structures and closes innovative financial transactions that leverage tax incentives. Think complicated deals like brownfields development, affordable housing and historic reuse. He understands doing well by doing good. That’s the goal of CITC: generate support for community economic development by leveraging private contributions. Bob’s – and your – contributions provide flexible working capital for Way Finders and generate a significant tax credit for you.

How does CITC work?

Any Massachusetts taxpayer – an individual, corporation or nonprofit – is eligible to receive a 50% tax credit for calendar-year donations of $1,000 or more made to a qualified community development corporation like Way Finders. And if you don’t owe state income tax, the tax credit will be paid to you directly; it is refundable.

How does CITC help our communities?

Donations made through the CITC program provide a critical source of unrestricted support for Way Finders. Support for programs like our first time homebuyer certification, which helped us guide 198 families to their first home purchase in FY23. Or our Employment Support Services, which provided over 400 people with support and skill-building to help them get better paying jobs, further their education and identify a career pathway—where they will stay employed and achieve career growth.

What’s the catch? Way Finders has a limited number of tax credits available – first come, first served!

CITC participants must commit before the end of the calendar year

Eligible donations made during the current calendar year will result in a certificate of tax credits to be redeemed on this year’s tax returns. Donors may also be eligible for a federal tax deduction for their donation.

“Way Finders’ mission is pure, it’s to the heart of creating homes for people that need support to get started in life. The foundation of one’s life is home, it all starts there,” said Dorfman. “And to hear you say that Way Finders empowers women, and that seventy-seven percent of your clients are women, that’s a beautiful thing for me, as a father of four daughters.”
